1,350 tonnes of steel load-bearing system at the King Abdullah Stadium in Jeddah

On the King Abdullah Stadium project in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, the stadium's load-bearing frames and vast roof steelwork were fabricated from 1,350 tonnes of steel.

Notable for its contemporary architectural design, the stadium was built to international standards and added value to the region's sports and event capacity. The project became one of the tangible outcomes of our international contracting experience.

Why is a stadium roof demanding work?

Stadium roofs are among the most demanding applications of steelwork. Because the stands have to be covered without columns, spans grow and cantilever lengths increase.

To this are added the uplift that wind load creates in the plane of the roof and the need for temporary stability during erection. The steel members were designed in accordance with the engineering calculations these loads require.

Production to international standards

The project was designed using 3D modelling and structural analysis software in line with international engineering standards. All fabrication and erection work was carried out in accordance with our quality management procedures.

High-precision equipment was used throughout erection, keeping structural integrity and safety to the fore.
